Although best known perhaps for this quote “Lawyers too were children once,” Charles Lamb, the British essayist, critic and poet, had this to say about the subject of “ASSOCIATION;” “We gain nothing by being with such as ourselves. We encourage one another in mediocrity. I am always longing to be with men (and if I might add, women) more excellent than myself.”

I strongly believe this philosophy epitomizes how valuable it is to be a member of the Dayton Bar Association and establish relationships with other attorneys. A good friend of mine suggests that the reason bar membership is so important is because it provides a meaningful opportunity to meet lawyers outside one’s practice area in a non-adversarial setting. We have a great deal to learn from one another and our association provides ample opportunity to do this.
