Race day is almost here! The 5 for the Kids race committee is gearing up for the second annual 5 for the Kids, 5k (3.1 miles) run/walk race to benefit CARE House, our community’s child advocacy center for abused and neglected children. The event will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008. Please spread the word to colleagues, family and friends! Once again, Brixx Ice Company has graciously agreed to host the event, with registration beginning at 5:30 p.m. on race day. With less than a month until race time, we would like to take this opportunity to provide you with detailed race information, as well as thank those businesses and individuals who have helped to make this event possible.
Volunteer Your Time
Approximately 50 volunteers are needed in order to facilitate the event. The race committee is looking for individuals to help with a variety of event logistics including race-day set-up, timers, course direction, registration, water stop and finish line volunteers. Race volunteers will receive a t-shirt and tickets for the post-race event. Please contact Katie Miltner at kmiltner@ficlaw.com if you are interested in volunteering.
You Still Have Time to Organize a Race Team!
The race will feature a special team competition (each team is comprised of 3 persons). The winning team is determined by the lowest combined time of all three team members. We encourage you to assemble firm or office colleagues and enter the race as a team. The winning “legal team” will be featured on a name plate affixed to a plaque that is displayed at the Dayton Bar Association offices. Each year a new name plate will be added to the plaque to memorialize the winning legal team. Last year, Thompson Hine edged out Faruki Ireland & Cox with a combined time of 1:09:57 and average time of 23:19. Prepare yourselves for some fierce competition among law firms and come out to cheer on your favorite team!
Donate to CARE House by Registering for the Race and Celebrating at Brixx Ice Company!
For those of you wary of running or walking a 5k, please consider registering for the race and participating in the post-race celebration at Brixx. Thanks to our sponsors, eighty percent (80%) of the registration fee will go directly to CARE House. Even if you decide not to participate in the race itself, your $20 pre-registration donation not only benefits the children of CARE House, but also gets you a 5 for the Kids t-shirt, two free drinks at Brixx and live entertainment on the night of the race. Consider the registration fee your donation to CARE House!
Likewise, you do not have to participate in the race to be entered in the post-race raffle. For every new stuffed toy that you bring to Brixx on the night of the race, your name will be entered into a drawing to win exciting prizes donated by local businesses. You must be present to win, and all toys will be donated to CARE House.
